Digital Agriculture: IoT, Drones, and AI for Precision Farming

Dear Colleagues,

As the capabilities of digital tools in agriculture continue to advance rapidly, the need for innovative methodologies and interdisciplinary approaches to deploy, assess, and optimize IoT-, drone-, and AI-driven farming systems has become increasingly critical. Precision agriculture and digital innovation stand at the forefront of this transformation, offering new pathways for data-informed decision-making and resource-efficient crop and livestock management. Meanwhile, the rise of digital agriculture presents both unprecedented opportunities for productivity enhancement and significant challenges in ensuring equitable access, redefining advisory services, and maintaining ecological sustainability.

This special issue aims to explore the intersection of digital agriculture, IoT sensing, autonomous systems, and precision management. It seeks to highlight cutting-edge research, technological innovations, and analytical frameworks that enhance the design, implementation, and responsible governance of data-driven farming solutions. Topics of interest include:

• IoT-based environmental monitoring and real-time field data integration

• Drone-enabled crop health assessment, spraying, and yield forecasting

• AI-driven decision support systems for precision planting, irrigation, and pest control

• Equity, access, and digital inclusion for smallholder and resource-limited farmers

• The evolving role of agricultural advisors and extension services in digital farming contexts

• Ethical considerations and algorithmic transparency in farm management platforms

• Data ownership, privacy, and farmer agency in connected agricultural systems

• Comparative studies on digital agriculture effectiveness across cropping systems and regions

• Policy frameworks for sustainable digital agricultural transitions

We welcome original research articles, case studies, and reviews that contribute to advancing the dialogue and practice in this dynamic and evolving field.

Manuscript Submission Information

Authors should submit their manuscripts for the special issue by emailing them as an attachment to specialissue@hillpublish.com or by using the online submission system. The manuscript should be submitted by one of the authors, and submissions by anyone other than the authors will not be accepted. Additionally, the submitted manuscript should include a cover letter that specifies the special issue to which the manuscript is being submitted.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). The submitted papers should be properly formatted and written in fluent English. All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Guidelines page.
