Dear Colleagues,
As the potential of immersive technologies to transform educational experiences continues to grow, the need for innovative methodologies and interdisciplinary approaches to design, evaluate, and scale VR/AR-enhanced learning has become increasingly critical. Virtual and augmented reality stand at the forefront of this transformation, offering new pathways for experiential engagement and inclusive participation across diverse learner populations. Meanwhile, the rise of immersive learning environments presents both unprecedented opportunities for hands-on, contextualized education and significant challenges in ensuring accessibility, redefining instructional facilitation, and maintaining pedagogical authenticity.
This special issue aims to explore the intersection of VR/AR technologies, experiential pedagogy, inclusivity, and instructional design. It seeks to highlight cutting-edge research, technological innovations, and theoretical frameworks that enhance the creation, implementation, and ethical oversight of immersive educational experiences. Topics of interest include:
• Immersive environment design and interactive VR/AR learning systems
• Pedagogical models for integrating virtual and augmented reality in experiential education
• Equity, accessibility, and inclusive design in VR/AR learning across diverse populations
• The evolving role of educators as facilitators in immersive educational settings
• Ethical considerations and safety concerns in virtual learning spaces
• Data privacy, behavioral tracking, and learner autonomy in immersive environments
• Comparative studies on VR/AR effectiveness across educational contexts and age groups
• Policy frameworks and teacher training for sustainable integration of immersive technologies
We welcome original research articles, case studies, and reviews that contribute to advancing the dialogue and practice in this dynamic and evolving field.
