STEM/STEAM Education for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Dear Colleagues,

As the urgency and complexity of global sustainability challenges continue to expand, the need for innovative methodologies and interdisciplinary approaches to integrate STEM/STEAM education with the Sustainable Development Goals has become increasingly critical. STEM/STEAM education stands at the forefront of this transformation, offering new pathways for empowering learners to understand, address, and solve pressing environmental, social, and economic issues. Meanwhile, the rise of sustainability-oriented educational frameworks and technologies presents both unprecedented opportunities for transformative learning and significant challenges in curriculum design, equity, and meaningful implementation.

This special issue aims to explore the intersection of STEM/STEAM education and the Sustainable Development Goals. It seeks to highlight cutting-edge research, pedagogical innovations, and theoretical frameworks that enhance the integration of sustainability principles into STEM/STEAM teaching and learning. Topics of interest include:

• STEM/STEAM pedagogies for addressing specific SDGs in diverse educational contexts

• Interdisciplinary approaches linking STEM/STEAM with sustainability education

• Innovative technologies and tools for SDG-oriented STEM/STEAM learning

• Equity, inclusion, and access in STEM/STEAM education for sustainable development

• Teacher training and professional development for SDG-integrated STEM/STEAM

• Assessment and evaluation of learning outcomes in sustainability-focused STEM/STEAM

• Community-based and experiential learning models for the SDGs

• Policy frameworks and global initiatives supporting STEM/STEAM for sustainable development

We welcome original research articles, case studies, and reviews that contribute to advancing the dialogue and practice in this dynamic and evolving field.
