Abstract

The course “Society and Culture in English-Speaking Countries” has the characteristics of wide content, diverse content, and tight class hours. Given such practical constraints, blended online‑offline teaching has become an imperative teaching reform direction for this subject. Meanwhile, appropriate selection and reasonable adaptation of high‑quality online resources exert a direct and decisive influence on the overall implementation quality and practical effect of blended teaching. This paper conducts a comparative analysis of two national‑level first‑class online courses, namely “Overview of English‑speaking Countries” developed by Zhang Fusheng’s team and “Society and Culture of English‑speaking Countries” developed by Feng Yanling’s team. Centering on the course’s inherent teaching features, talent‑training objectives, and real‑world student learning status, it explores the core logic behind online resource screening. Moreover, a questionnaire survey is carried out targeting learners’ experience with the selected online course designed by Feng Yanling’s team. Based on the feedback data, this paper puts forward targeted optimization suggestions to further improve the quality of blended learning practice.
