Research on the Path of Integrating the Kailuan’s “Exceptionally Capable in Battle” Spirit into College English for Art and PE Majors from the Perspective of Fostering Virtue Through Education

Abstract
Bringing local red cultural resources into English classes for art and physical education (PE) majors is a workable approach for local normal universities to deliver on the fundamental goal of fostering virtue through education, and to address the long-standing gap between ideological guidance and language instruction. For now, English courses for art and PE students generally run into three bottlenecks: ideological content is added in a superficial way, teaching materials are not closely connected to professional scenarios, and digital teaching resources are in short supply. Most existing studies treat regional red culture, art and PE education, and smart teaching tools as separate topics, without forming a complete, operable integrated teaching framework. Based on years of frontline English teaching experience with art, music and PE undergraduates at local normal universities, this research takes Kailuan’s “Exceptionally Capable in Battle” Spirit as the core value thread, follows the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) design logic, and combines digital tools including knowledge graphs, generative AI and learning big data to build a four-part teaching system: structured knowledge carriers, adaptive AI tool set, performance-driven hybrid classroom, and whole-process four-dimensional evaluation. Building on existing theoretical foundations, the research tests the effect of this teaching mode with one year of data from pilot classes. The mode can ease English learning anxiety among art and PE students, lift their cross-cultural expression ability, and foster their sense of perseverance and teamwork, offering a localized practical plan for curriculum-based ideological and political education in similar local universities.
