Abstract
With the deepening of cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, an increasing number of American TV series have entered the Chinese market, among which sitcoms occupy an important position. Featuring witty plots and vivid characters, American sitcoms are well-received by numerous domestic audiences and have evolved into highly influential works in cross-cultural communication. Humorous speech is prevalent in such sitcoms. It not only creates story atmosphere and depicts distinct personalities, but also reflects local lifestyles, thinking modes, and values with rich cultural implications and diverse expressive forms. American sitcoms and their translation directly affect the viewing experience of Chinese audiences. From the theoretical perspective of literary stylistics, this paper takes the original translations of some lines from the American sitcom 2 Broke Girls as the research object, and focuses on the strategies and effects of translating humorous speech at the lexical, syntactic, and rhetorical levels. It aims to explore ways to improve the translation quality of foreign film and television works, make them more acceptable and appreciable to Chinese audiences, and further promote the exchange and communication between Chinese and foreign cultures.
