Abstract
Characterized by the integration of multimodal resources, the multimodal corpus integrates multimodal resources such as text, audio, video, and images, providing an authentic, three-dimensional, and interactive learning environment for foreign language teaching. Taking the course English Intensive Reading 3 (Craftsman-ship in the Workplace) for the Applied English major as an example, this study explores the construction pathways and application values of multimodal corpora in intensive English reading instruction at vocational colleges. The research finds that the multimodal corpus effectively breaks the temporal and spatial constraints of traditional reading instruction, facilitates the transformation of teacher and student roles from “knowledge transmitters” to “learning facilitators” and from “passive recipients” to “active constructors,” respectively. By providing immersive contextualized input, it significantly enhances students’ comprehensive abilities in vocabulary acquisition, discourse comprehension, and intercultural communication. The study constructs a multimodal corpus application framework covering six thematic modules, including “The Way to Success” and “When Work is a Pleasure,” and proposes corpus annotation and retrieval solutions based on tools such as ELAN, offering practical references for the informatization reform of foreign language teaching.
