Abstract
In the context of the “Belt and Road” initiative and the “Curriculum Ideology and Politics” campaign in China, translation instructors face unprecedented challenges in aligning their teaching competencies with national strategic needs. Addressing the competency gaps among translation instructors in implementing ideological and political education, this study reconstructs faculty development pathways guided by the 2025 Undergraduate Training Program of Lanzhou City University. Focusing on the practice of the course Introduction to Chinese Culture (Course No. 7100113003, 34 contact hours), which enrolled 312 students with a 78% completion rate on XuetangX, we propose a three-dimensional model: Content Reconstruction, Technology Integration, and Reflective Internalization. Based on empirical surveys from 16 universities and a deep description case study, the research identifies significant deficits in instructors’ ability to translate Chinese cultural concepts and lead value-based discussions. By implementing dual-mentor lesson planning, a micro-credential system, and output-oriented assessment, the study facilitates a shift from mere “skill transmission” to “educational leadership”, offering a practical framework for faculty development in regional universities.
