Application of Visualized Precise Electrophysiological Therapy Combined with Electrothermal Acupuncture in Patients with Spinal Cord Injury and Neurogenic Bowel Dysfunction

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the application value of visualized precise electrophysiological therapy combined with electrothermal acupuncture in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) and neurogenic bowel dysfunction (NBD). Methods: A total of 60 patients with SCI and NBD admitted to our hospital from February 2024 to September 2025 were enrolled. They were randomly divided into a Research Group and a control group using a double-blind randomization method, with 30 cases in each group. Both groups received visualized, precise electrophysiological therapy, and the Research Group was additionally treated with electrothermal acupuncture for 2 consecutive weeks. The bowel function indexes, neurological function, and treatment safety were compared between the two groups. Results: After treatment, the weekly defecation frequency in the Research Group was significantly higher than that in the control group, the single defecation time was significantly shorter, and the Neurogenic Bowel Dysfunction Score (NBDS) was significantly lower (P < 0.05). After 2 weeks of treatment, the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) motor score and sensory score in the Research Group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups during treatment (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Visualized precise electrophysiological therapy combined with electrothermal acupuncture has definite value in improving bowel function and neurological function in patients with SCI and NBD, and the treatment is safe and effective.
