Abstract
Based on a self-built bilingual parallel corpus of agricultural science and technology reports, this study takes Chapter 3 of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)’s Digital Technologies in Agriculture and Rural Areas as the research object, adopting a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods to explore the application rules of explicitation translation strategies in the process of English-Chinese translation. The research finds that the translation of agricultural science and technology reports exhibits significant explicitation characteristics in four dimensions: connectives, logical relationships, cultural information, and technical terms, with explicitation methods mainly including three types: supple-mentation, specification, and reconstruction. The study further points out that the special communicative purpose of agricultural science and technology texts, the differences between English and Chinese linguistic structures, and the translator’s subjectivity jointly constitute the main motivations for explicitation strategies. This paper provides a new methodological perspective for agricultural science and technology translation research and offers certain reference value for the translation practice of similar texts.
