Abstract

Against the backdrop of rapid digitalization, excessive leisure screen time poses significant non-communicable disease risks (e.g., obesity, cardiovascular disease) to college students, yet specific measurement tools remain scarce. This pilot study aimed to validate a culturally adapted Leisure Screen Time Sedentary Behavior Questionnaire (LSTSBQ) for Chinese undergraduates. Based on a power analysis (minimum n=59, π=0.05), 274 eligible students were recruited via snowball sampling. Utilizing a rigorous back-translation protocol, participants completed the scale twice (one-week interval) and a detailed seven-day logbook. Psychometric properties were assessed using Intraclass Correlation Coefficients (ICCs), Cohen’s kappa, and Pearson correlation. Results demonstrated excellent test-retest reliability (all ICCs > 0.70) and near-perfect face validity (κ = 0.85, p < 0.01), alongside acceptable concurrent validity (r = 0.49, p < 0.01). No significant pre-post differences were observed (p > 0.05). The LSTSBQ is a psychometrically sound tool for assessing sedentary behavior in this population.
