AI-empowered Translation Teaching: Multi-dimensional Practices and Effectiveness Evaluation

Abstract

Digital transformation has placed new and practical demands on foreign language education. This study integrates concepts from artificial intelligence, translation studies and second language acquisition to explore feasible approaches and operational mechanisms of AI-supported translation instruction. Bibliometric analysis and quasi-experiment are adopted to investigate the application of neural machine translation, large language models and real-time speech translation in regular translation courses. Changes in learners’ translation competence, cross-cultural communication skills and critical thinking are measured and compared. AI tools effectively improve teaching efficiency by providing instant feedback, bilingual text alignment and contextual cultural explanation. The “AI-assisted – task-driven – teacher-supervised” model shows stable advantages in linguistic accuracy and cross-cultural appropriateness. Culturally adaptive AI systems reduce cross-cultural misinterpretations in real translation tasks. Proper AI use in classrooms does not weaken learners’ critical thinking ability. This study offers theoretical references and practical frameworks for the digital reform of translation teaching and enriches empirical research on technology-integrated language education.
