Abstract

Due to the differences between China and the West in narrative style, aesthetic habits and cultural patterns, the cross-cultural communication of Sichuan opera faces typical contradictions such as loss of connotation and obstruction of audience understanding. Based on cultural translation theory, this article employs methods such as literature analysis, comparative case studies, and questionnaire surveys. It incorporates a survey of 200 foreigners in China to examine and empirically support the effectiveness of the “narrative framework reconstruction” strategy. The findings indicate that non-heritage English translation is not only a literal symbolic transformation, but also a kind of cultural adjustment. It aims to achieve accurate transmission of information in a way that suits the audience’s acceptance habits under the condition that the core of the source culture remains unchanged. By adjusting the timing, simplifying the situation, highlighting contradictions and conflicts, and adding annotations at the appropriate time, the fluency and understandability of cross-cultural communication can be significantly improved. This research result provides a reference path and strategy not only for Sichuan opera but also for the cross-cultural communication of other non-heritage.
