Abstract

This study aims to explore the methods for integrating ideological and political elements into college students’ extracurricular English learning with the assistance of AI technology, in order to achieve the goals of technological empowerment, value guidance, and capability enhancement. AI technologies such as natural language processing, machine learning, and knowledge graphs can provide much support for the implicit integration of ideological and political elements into extracurricular English learning. They can identify texts with ideological and political connotations, offer personalized content, and construct a network of associations between English language knowledge and ideological and political elements, thereby adapting to the characteristics of extracurricular learning, such as strong autonomy and flexibility in time and space. The main methods for integrating ideological and political elements into college students’ extracurricular English learning include the construction of an AI-powered ideological-political English learning resource repository, as well as the integration of ideological and political elements into personalized learning activities, immersive virtual scenarios, interactive exchange platforms, an intelligent critical thinking discussion platform, and an adaptive English learning system. These approaches aim to cultivate college students with correct values, a sense of social responsibility, and a global perspective. In the future, joint efforts among educators, technical experts, and administrators are needed to continuously explore and refine new models of AI-assisted ideological and political education in foreign language teaching.
