Abstract
A History of British and American Literature is a core course for English majors. It has not only the purpose of imparting literary knowledge, but also plays an important role in guiding students to form cultural identity and national consciousness. The traditional teaching mode of literature can no longer meet the needs of education. Based on classroom teaching practice, this paper makes adjustments to the organization of course content and teaching methods, and explores ways of integrating cultural identity and national consciousness into literature history teaching. By employing teaching strategies such as comparative teaching, problem-based discussions, and reflective expression, students are guided to form their own cultural judgments and value identifications in the process of understanding British and American literature. The teaching practice shows that integrating ideological and political education into the teaching process helps enhance students’ cultural understanding ability and subject consciousness, achieving the organic unity of knowledge imparting and value guidance.
