Abstract
With the rapid development of information technology, profound changes have taken place in the field of education. In English teaching, traditional “surface learning” can hardly meet the demands of talent cultivation, making promoting the transition of students towards “deep understanding” a crucial direction for educational reform. Against the backdrop of IT-enabled teaching, this paper explores the theoretical foundations, core characteristics, and implementation strategies of deep learning in English education. The study first reviews the evolution of IT-enabled language teaching theories and analyzes the connotations and development of deep learning theory. It then constructs a theoretical framework for deep learning in English, clarifies its four core characteristics, and discusses the cognitive mechanisms of key supporting technologies. Furthermore, five major deep learning strategies are proposed, followed by suggestions for teaching implementation. The research argues that the deep integration of information technology and English teaching can empower deep learning, thereby supporting the cultivation of high-quality talents.
