Abstract
As a principle of factuality, the truth principle plays a foundational role in natural documentary production, but its practical implementation differs markedly between cultural systems. By comparison analysis, the significant differences between Chinese and Western natural documentaries are revealed as follows: In practice, Chinese natural documentaries adhere closely to a holistic ecological dimension as well as humanistic instruction and the creation of poetic images, and they frequently develop a holistic storyline with authoritative narration to present an integrated view of nature. Western natural documentaries prioritize individualized story lines, emotional involvement, and critical questions, and they commonly use advanced technologies and immersive strategies to create intimate life narratives. The differences between the two cultural systems stem from their different philosophical traditions, aesthetic conceptions, and conceptions of the cultural role of the media. This research provides a useful perspective for understanding the pluralized expressions of documentary in the making of nature films worldwide.
