Abstract
The calligraphic fonts and their expressiveness in the poster of the dance drama “Chun Zhi Ji · Ji” involve the re-creation of characters and design. By utilizing the “pictographic nature” of Chinese characters and the “layout” of the picture space, the work combines forms in ways of separation and connection within the frame. The strokes of the characters endow the blank spaces between design forms with visual significance through variations. This paper conducts a specific analysis of the creation of calligraphic fonts in design, elaborates on design techniques and concepts, summarizes the prominent feature of “extreme simplicity” in the work, points out the crises faced by contemporary design and conducts reflections, and outlines the innovative expression forms of current design. The new media era of digital information has brought changes not only to design thinking but also to design methods and tools.
