Abstract
India is one of the fastest-growing gig economies in the world, and it is estimated that it creates 8 million jobs in the country. The gig workers mainly use the online platform as their customer service base. India must use the potential of digital advantages to improve the efficiency of the gig platform. However, these digital platforms do not adequately orient the labour market in India. Digital infrastructure support is crucial in broadening the gig economy’s labour market. The Role of the National Skill Development Corporation and India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in the growth prospects of the gig economy is vital, especially in the rural sector. Cloud service projects and artificial intelligence (AI) must be more inclusive in order to promote employment. There is also a need to integrate the provisions of the Social Security Code, 2020, sections 2 of 35 and 55, regarding online platforms to design social security measures effectively for gig workers. The gig economy is a parallel platform that can create prospective employment opportunities for the young population in India. Digital upskilling in the gig labour market can promote quality employment in the sector, which will energise the economy in the future.
