Abstract

This paper examines 239 English and 175 Chinese publications relating to post-editing, using the CiteSpace visualization tool, retrieved by China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI, mainly CSSCI, CSSCI Expanded, and major Chinese journals) and the Web of Science (SCI and SCI Expanded) between 2015 and 2025. Machine translation post-editing research in China and beyond is compared along several dimensions: publication trends, important researchers, institutions, international collaboration trends, and research hotspots through its decade or so of development and evolution. The results indicate a long-term international growth, with the scholarship across the globe constituting diversified research networks and being consistent in terms of methodological innovation through technological and cognitive approaches. By contrast, Chinese research is largely pedagogically focused and confined to a few universities, and less university-aggregated. The identified differences demonstrate the imbalance in the evolutionary process and pose a possibility of general collaboration, paradigm elaboration, and increased research potential in a national setting.
