Abstract
Objective: To explore the effect of minocycline hydrochloride ointment in treating periodontal disease on periodontal index and inflammatory reaction. Methods: 42 patients with periodontal disease (seen from January 2024 to October 2024) were assigned 21 patients to the observation and control groups. The control group was treated with metronidazole, and the control group was treated with minocycline hydrochloride ointment combined with metronidazole. Two groups of periodontal index [plaque index (PLI), gingival index (GI), periodontal bag exploration depth (PD)], inflammatory response index [Creactive protein (CRP), interleukin-8 (IL-8), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α)] were compared. Results: PLI, GI, and PD between the two groups (P> 0.05); after treatment, PLI, GI, and PD were decreased than before treatment (P <0.05), and the observation group was lower than the control group (P <0.05). CRP, IL-8, and TNF-α (P> 0.05); after treatment, CRP, IL-8, and TNF-α were decreased than before treatment (P <0.05), and the observation group was lower than the control group (P <0.05). Conclusion: Treatment with minocycline hydrochloride ointment can improve the periodontal index and reduce the inflammatory response index.
