Abstract

Background: Enteral nutrition provides nutrients directly to the gastrointestinal system intermittently or continuously. Nurses have important responsibilities in correctly applying and maintaining enteral nutrition and reducing complications related to enteral nutrition. Objective: he aim of this study is to determine the self-efficacy levels of nurses in the field of enteral nutrition and the factors affecting these levels. Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with the participation of 383 clinical nurses from Turkey. Data were collected online through a survey consisting of two parts: "Personal Information Form" and "Enteral Nutrition Practices Self-Efficacy Scale (ENPSES)". Results: In our research, 72.3% of the nurses have 1-5 years of professional experience and 23.24% have received enteral nutrition training. In our study, it was determined that age, gender, education level, total professional experience and training did not affect the enteral nutrition self-efficacy of nurses. Conclusion: As a result, it is recommended that in-service training on enteral nutrition or nutrition be made mandatory for nurses who start working in the hospital and that inspections on this subject be increased. These trainings should be regularly updated based on current guidelines and evidence-based practices. Additionally, collaboration with dietitians and clinical educators may enhance nurses’ competence in providing safe and effective nutritional care. Institutional policies must also emphasize the monitoring of enteral nutrition practices to ensure consistency and quality across healthcare settings.
