Abstract

Painting art, as a visual medium with a rich historical legacy, possesses unique psychological and emotional influence that extends beyond aesthetic appreciation. This paper investigates the therapeutic potential of painting within the framework of contemporary art therapy. Drawing upon key psychological theories—including right-brain emotional regulation, psychological projection, and sensorimotor integration—it analyzes how painting facilitates emotional expression, alleviates psychological distress, and fosters cognitive and emotional resilience. The study further delineates the manifestations of the healing function in painting, such as releasing suppressed emotions, enhancing self-awareness, repairing psychological trauma, and improving interpersonal relationships. Through interdisciplinary case analyses, the article explores practical applications of painting therapy across clinical, educational, domestic, and community settings. Special attention is given to its efficacy in treating mental disorders, supporting child and adolescent development, promoting self-care in daily life, and fostering social cohesion. By integrating theoretical research with practical case studies, this work contributes to the expanding field of art-based mental health interventions. It advocates for the systematic implementation of painting therapy as a complementary approach within multidisciplinary treatment and educational systems. Ultimately, painting is positioned not merely as an expressive art form but as a scientifically grounded and evidence-informed tool for psychological healing and personal transformation.
