Abstract

The manuscript titled “Contribution of Family Types to Marital Decision Making Among Students of Jimma College of Teachers Education” explores how different family structures—intact vs. single-parent families—influence students’ decisions regarding marriage. Utilizing a mixed methods approach (quantitative and qualitative), the study surveyed 217 students using questionnaires and interviews. The results suggest that both intact and single families significantly influence marital decision-making, though intact families tend to contribute more positively. The study recommends interventions like counseling, life skills training, and curriculum reforms to improve student’s preparedness for marital decisions. It is recommended that the Oromia Education Bureau introduce marriage and family counseling courses to minimize variations among college students on marital decision making.
