Abstract

Objective: To investigate the current situation of pain management among clinical nurses in a tertiary-grade A hospital, analyze its influencing factors, and provide a basis for optimizing pain management strategies. Methods: A convenience sampling method was employed. A total of 600 clinical nurses from Shaanxi Provincial People’s Hospital were selected as the research subjects from February to May 2024. Data on their pain management status were collected through a questionnaire survey, and descriptive statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS 26.1. Results: In terms of pain assessment tools, 67.51% of the departments used single-dimensional pain assessment tools (the use rate of the Numerical Rating Scale was 79.12%), while the use rate of the special scale for neuropathic pain screening was only 23.74%, and 14.31% of the departments did not use any assessment tools. Regarding dynamic assessment, 74.92% of the departments carried out dynamic assessment, but there were significant differences in the re-assessment time (for example, the re-assessment rate 30 minutes after intravenous injection was 58.92%). The application rate of non-pharmacological interventions was low (e.g., the application rate of music therapy was 26.43%). In the aspect of doctor-nurse cooperation, 52.36% of doctors completely followed the nurses’ assessment results, and 21.72% of doctors relied on their own judgments. Only 18.40% of the nurses had received systematic training, and 81.31% were in urgent need of knowledge about pain assessment. In terms of department management systems, 39.37% of the departments had established systematic management systems, while 3.54% of the departments had no regulations at all. Conclusion: The clinical nurses in this hospital have a relatively high attitude level towards pain management, but the standardization of assessment and the diversity of interventions need to be improved. It is recommended to further enhance the nurses’ pain management ability by improving the hierarchical training system, strengthening the multi-disciplinary collaboration mechanism, and optimizing the management process.
