Abstract

This paper explores the application and significance of digital textbooks in English teaching. With the rapid advancement of digital transformation, digital textbooks have emerged as innovative educational resources that convert traditional paper-based content into interactive, multimedia-rich formats. These digital tools integrate images, audio, and video, facilitating personalized, engaging, and intelligent instruction. The paper first reviews the status of digital textbooks in primary and secondary English education, highlighting progress made by major publishers and educational institutions. It then examines the key roles of digital textbooks in promoting active learning, stimulating interest, broadening cultural perspectives, and establishing effective feedback mechanisms. Additionally, a case study of Oxford Shanghai Edition English textbooks illustrates strategies for pre-class preparation, in-class interaction, and post-class evaluation. The study further discusses the importance of balancing digital and paper textbooks, enhancing teachers’ digital literacy, and establishing unified standards to ensure sustainable implementation. Findings indicate that the effective integration of digital textbooks can significantly improve English teaching quality and support the broader reform of educational practices.
