Abstract

Although Liang Shuming did not explicitly state his position in the debates between science and metaphysics, Hu Shi and others directly criticized him as part of the metaphysical school. Subsequently, the academic community broadly categorized Liang Shuming within this school, primarily based on his views that both the future world and China must adhere to the path of Confucius as outlined in the "Three Roads to Sayings". This is mainly based on Liang Shuming's view that the world and China should follow the path of Confucius in the future. However, Liang Shuming's choice may not be properly judged from the holistic perspective of his thought. If we focus on the position of comprehensive Westernization, which he repeatedly emphasized in the special national conditions at that time, and which was intended to save the country, and which had the realism of the times, and the measure of remedying the insufficiency of the Western attitude of human being by countering the anti-Orientalization, then we can judge Liang Shuming's thought in the position of the scientific argument in a more concrete way.
