The Influence of ICARE Concept Combined with Peer Support Learning Method on the Humanistic Care of Nursing Students

Abstract
Objective: To explore the effectiveness of applying the ICARE concept combined with peer-assisted learning methods in enhancing the humanistic care skills training of nursing interns. Methods: From February 2022 to February 2023, a total of 272 nursing interns participated in this study. A historical control design was adopted, with interns from February to July 2022 serving as the control group and interns from August 2022 to February 2023 serving as the experimental group, consisting of 132 in the control group and 140 in the experimental group. The control group received traditional teaching methods for training nursing students in humanistic care skills, while the experimental group adopted a new training method combining the ICARE concept with peer-assisted learning methods. Results: The evaluation scores of the four dimensions—situation simulation assessment, satisfaction, humanistic care ability, and professional attitude—of nursing students in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group (all P < 0.05), indicating statistical significance. Conclusion: The new training method combining the ICARE concept with peer-assisted learning methods has shown significant improvement in enhancing the humanistic care skills of nursing students.
