Abstract
As a compulsory general education course, graduate public English course in colleges and universities not only plays an important role in enhancing students’ language proficiency and academic writing ability but also carry a significant function of ideological and political education, such as cultivating students’ patriotism and international vision, and enhancing their critical thinking ability and innovative consciousness as well as their humanistic literacy. Taking New Era Academic English for Graduate Students Comprehensive Course as an example, this paper mainly discusses in depth how to systematically incorporate ideological and political elements into teaching objectives, teaching content, and teaching methods, with a view to opening up a new path for the construction of ideological and political education in graduate public English course. However, since this research is mainly based on this textbook, it is inevitable to have certain limitations, which suggests that when teaching other textbooks, teachers need to incorporate ideological and political education into the themes and teaching objectives of each specific unit so as to achieve the expected teaching effects.
