Abstract

Qinqiang Opera, as an important part of the farming culture in Northwest China, was listed in the first batch of 581 national intangible cultural heritages in 2006. With the diversification of the ways and means of cultural construction along the “Belt and Road”, Qinqiang Opera—the originator of traditional Chinese opera—has gradually gone abroad and toured on the international stage. The English translation practice of its classic plays has been carried out in various universities. Although the number of its studies is less than that of the five major operas in the Garden of Chinese Operas, namely the Peking Opera, Yu Opera, Yue Opera, Pingju Opera, and Huangmei Opera. As the national intangible cultural heritage, the translation of Qinqiang opera into English has important research significance and space for exploration. This paper reviews the recent research on the English translation of Qinqiang Opera and puts forward the author’s perspective and the prospect of the study.
