Research of Students’ Engagement Differences in Mobile Learning

Abstract

This study examined the effect of mobile learning, which improved students' engagement in ideological and political theory (IPT) courses. It is implemented at Harbin Finance University. A questionnaire based on WeChat was tested for the study, and a total of 100 students were randomly selected from freshmen, sophomores, and juniors who participated in the experiment. As an experimental group, 70 participants were tested on satisfaction of engagement after one semester of using mobile learning named “Rain Classroom” (RC) in the IPT course. As a control group, 30 participants were tested on the satisfaction of the engagement of the IPT class in traditional interactive teaching. We predicted that the collected data supported the hypothesis that RC mobile learning can significantly enhance the students’ engagement satisfaction in IPA courses. The research outcome suggested that RC mobile learning may have some positive effects on students’ engagement. However, we found that participants in the experimental group were more satisfied with the interactivity in the IPT course than those in the control groups. However, by Comparing the students' engagement satisfaction between the experimental group and the control group, the results didn’t show any statistically significant differences, which is not consistent with the hypothesis. In future studies, there is room for improvement in software technology and attracting teachers and students to use it.
