Cross-cultural Management Research Based on the Analysis of Cultural Differences

Abstract

Cross-cultural management refers to the management of an organization or team within a multicultural context. It involves understanding, respecting, and effectively managing the differences among various cultures within the organization. Cross-cultural management has become an increasingly important issue for many organizations around the world. Addressing cultural differences is a key aspect of cross-cultural management. Different cultures arise from varying understandings of communication and language, as well as differing religious beliefs and customs, which can create significant organizational obstacles. Cross-cultural management often focuses on the negative impacts of cultural differences. To overcome these challenges, organizations must adapt their unique cultures and align them with their strategic goals and decisions. Consequently, many international organizations emphasize the importance of cultural integration. They may prioritize this integration and adopt various cross-cultural management models, such as Hofstede’s Six Dimensions Model or the Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck Framework, based on their specific management goals or strategies. Additionally, cross-cultural management encompasses the influence of societal culture on managers and their management practices. The societal cultural environment can affect managers' values, cognitive structures, and reactions, which are often reflected in their educational background and the social-cultural context in which they operate. Therefore, cross-cultural managers must effectively address the following questions: Firstly, how can they clearly understand the cultural values of the organization? Secondly, how can they avoid cultural bias? Thirdly, how can they determine the appropriate cross-cultural management strategy for the organization, including options such as cultural assimilation, cultural compromise, and cultural integration? Among these strategies, cultural integration may play a particularly significant role in many international organizations. Finally, how can they cultivate localized talent?
