Teaching Strategies of Audio-visual English Speaking Combined with TED Talks

Abstract

Currently, audio-visual English Speaking courses in colleges and university can not initiate the students’ ability of creation. The old-fashioned teaching methods should be assisted by modern technology. TED talk videos are characterized by their diversity, epochal novelty, originality with rich subject content, distinct viewpoints, and authentic language. As one of the high-quality open network resources, TED talk videos can enrich English audio-visual teaching content and improve classroom teaching effects. Based on an understanding of TED speeches and their characteristics, combined with the current teaching situation of audio-visual speaking courses in college English, this paper analyzes the importance of TED talks in audio-visual teaching from the perspective of factual corpus, autonomous learning, and humanistic education. It also explores the practical application of TED talks in audio-visual teaching courses to provide references for college English teachers.
