Practical English Ability Cultivation in Higher Vocational Colleges Under the Demand Analysis

Abstract
Under the backdrop of increasingly extensive international exchanges and economic globalization, international collaborations in various fields are becoming more frequent. Consequently, there is a growing social demand for versatile foreign language talents with practical applications. College English teaching departments need to promptly understand the market's demand for talent, adjust the teaching content and methods, cultivate versatile applied foreign language professionals who can proficiently master English along with other professional theories and practical skills, and enhance the overall quality and employability of college students. Through interviews with enterprise representatives, higher vocational college graduates, and students, we conducted a survey to assess the practical English skills needed in the workforce. Our research revealed a gap between the English proficiency taught in higher vocational education and the actual demands of the job market. Therefore, we propose practical strategies for enhancing English education and training to better align with industry needs.
