Abstract

Guizhou is a typical multi-ethnic area in southwestern China. It is of great significance to take this area as a case to discuss the topic of ethnic education. This paper discusses the adaptation of state-compiled Chinese textbooks for primary schools in the Guizhou ethnic area, the challenges encountered, and the corresponding strategies. Both questionnaire and field study were involved in the research. 262 questionnaires were distributed to primary school Chinese teachers in two schools of Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture. The result of the research reveals that those Chinese teachers hold differentiated attitudes (handy and challenging) towards the new textbook. Nevertheless, all teachers speak highly of the quality of the new teaching materials. On the whole, teachers all agree that the teaching content and evaluation methods of state-compiled textbooks should be adapted to local conditions. Specifically, we can propose corresponding strategies from the perspectives of ideology, specific teaching activity processes, and external educational management.
