Abstract

This study presents a quantitative investigation into the perceptions and motivations of employees within the travel industry in Guangdong Province, China. Leveraging a cross-sectional survey design, we collected responses from 456 em-ployees across various tourism sectors, achieving a 91.2% response rate. The analysis utilized the Motivational Factors Scale (MFS) and the Perceptual Factors Scale (PFS), adjusted to Guangdong's unique socio-cultural context. Findings indicate high levels of intrinsic motivation among participants, with job satisfaction and personal growth being the predominant drivers. However, a palpable concern has emerged regarding the integration of digital platforms and artificial intelligence, with many employees expressing fears about job security in light of technological advancements. These results underscore the need for a nuanced approach to managing and training employees in Guangdong's tourism sector. This approach should integrate both the evidently high intrinsic motivations and address technology-induced concerns. The study provides valuable insights for stakeholders in Guangdong's travel industry and contributes to the broader aca-demic discourse on employee motivations in the context of industry digitization.
