A Study of the International Mainstream English Teaching Methods

Abstract
This article gives a comprehensive overview of the international mainstream English teaching methods, including the direct method, interactive learning method, task-based teaching method, and situational teaching method. Each method has its own definition and characteristics and is analyzed by examples. This paper further discusses the advantages of these methods, such as improving students' awareness of active learning, enhancing practical application ability, and improving language communication ability. However, the challenges facing these approaches are also pointed out, such as the changing role of teachers, the allocation of teaching resources, and the increasing difficulty of teaching evaluation. In addition, the paper makes an in-depth study of the current situation of the application of international mainstream English teaching methods in China and puts forward corresponding development strategies, including strengthening teacher training, optimizing teaching resources, and innovating teaching evaluation.
