Teachers’ Design Thinking of Instructional Design in Higher Education

Abstract

In the realm of education and teaching, design science plays a critical role, as a result, teachers are expected to design and create effective learning experiences. This task requires a thorough understanding of design thinking, and teachers who successfully implement it into their own classrooms usually receive positive results. However, a major limitation of existing empirical studies is that few of them consider the perspectives of all actors involved in the design thinking intervention. In addition to students, attention should also be paid to teachers and other actors in the educational process. Therefore, this paper will focus on teachers' perceptions and applications of design thinking in higher education. Specifically, we address two research questions: (1) What are the characteristics and advantages of design thinking? (2) How can teachers integrate design thinking into higher education? To illustrate the practicality of design thinking, we will use an English class as an example. This study aims to serve as a starting point for further investigation into teachers' perceptions and applications of design thinking in higher education.
