Abstract
With the advancement of English teaching and examination reform in universities, there has been some progress in English reading instruction. However, traditional English reading teaching methods still present some challenges. The traditional teaching mode is characterized by indoctrination and a lack of student participation and interaction. It places excessive emphasis on providing conclusions and problem guidance, and relies too heavily on closed tasks rather than divergent tasks. Additionally, it overemphasizes score evaluation at the expense of ability cultivation. Therefore, it is urgent for the English major reading courses to fundamentally change the teaching mode in order to improve the quality of instruction. This paper aims to discuss the current situation of teaching English literature, explore the application value of Content-Based Instruction (CBI) in this context, and propose methods for integrating the CBI concept into English reading instruction. Additionally, this paper analyzes the challenges of incorporating the CBI concept into English major reading teaching. It concludes that integrating CBI teaching concepts into English major reading instruction can improve teaching quality, enhance students' overall English proficiency, and cultivate their critical thinking skills.
