A Study on the Relationship between Social Support and Academic Procrastination among Junior High School Students

Abstract
In this study, 483 junior high school students were selected from the Social Support Scale and the Academic Procrastination Questionnaire for Secondary School Students to explore the relationship between social support and academic procrastination. The results showed that the social support score of junior high school students was (67.37±15.34), indicating that their social support level was in the middle to upper level, and showed significant differences in gender, class cadres and grade level, specifically, the social support level of girls was significantly higher than that of males; the social support level of class cadres was significantly higher than that of non-student cadres; the academic procrastination score was (37.34±13.19). The score of academic procrastination was (37.34±13.19), indicating that junior high school students have some procrastination problems, and there were significant differences in class cadres and grades, specifically the level of academic procrastination of non-student cadres was significantly higher than that of class cadres, and the level of academic procrastination was the least in the first year, followed by the third year and finally the second year. Social support negatively predicted the level of academic procrastination. In order to improve students' academic procrastination problems, continuous efforts from schools, parents and individual students are needed.
