Teaching the Reading of College English and Foreign Newspapers from a Multimodal Perspective

Abstract

Reading college English newspapers is of great significance. First, it is to broaden the scope of knowledge. College English newspapers cover many fields of knowledge, including current affairs, science and technology, entertainment, culture, education and so on. By reading English newspapers and periodicals, we can understand the trends in foreign countries and have a more comprehensive understanding of the cultures and social systems around the world. The second is to improve English reading comprehension: reading college English newspapers is helpful to improve reading comprehension and reading speed. Through long-term reading, we can gradually get familiar with English sentence patterns and language structure, and cultivate the feeling of reading English articles. Third, improve writing ability: reading English articles can expand vocabulary, increase writing materials, but also can learn from the logic and expression of English articles, and strengthen the understanding of grammar, structure, style and other aspects to improve writing ability. With the development of time science and technology, the traditional classroom teaching mode has been unable to adapt to the new campus classroom. Computers, projectors, audio and other facilities provide students to learn multimodal information material conditions. Starting with several mainstream British and American newspapers, this paper mainly discusses the significance of the use of multi-modal media in English classroom teaching, so as to promote students to master and use the reading level of foreign newspapers to a certain extent, and to enhance their independent thinking ability.
