Abstract
After modernist architecture encountered a bottleneck, facing the dilemma of increasingly homogenized architecture, the American architect Robert Venturi published the book "Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture," criticizing Mies's modernist architecture. Mies believed that "less is more", and Robert Venturi believed that this view led to modern architecture being too simplified, too functional, and lacking in artistry. Robert Venturi believed that good architecture should have complexity and contradiction, opening a new chapter for postmodern architecture. Oriental spatial consciousness is rooted in oriental aesthetics and has the philosophical connotation of oriental aesthetics. Robert Venturi's view of architecture shows the characteristics of Eastern philosophy, just as he did not want black and white, but gray in between. The oriental spatial consciousness, which emphasizes the holistic view and the concept of "Qi" in everything, also shares similarities with the ideas of complexity and contradiction. This paper takes the Mu Xin Art Museum as an example to explore the manifestation of architectural complexity and contradiction in Eastern spatial aesthetics.
